Fire Angels by Joseph Richardson Fire Angels is a southern novel that takes place in central Florida between 1915 and 1925. It follows the lives and tribulations of David and Sara Cooper and their son, Noble. The family is affected by hard financial times, separation during World War I, murder, tragedy brought on by the influenza epidemic of 1918 and the lynching of a black neighbor. Noble, a savant, and his black playmate and mentor, "Little Jack" Harris, are instrumental in solving the murder and the lynching of the neighbor. The author, Joseph Richardson, is a native Floridian who was born and raised on a farm outside a small town quite similar to the fictional town of Walako in Fire Angels. Richardson graduated from St. Petersburg FL High School and earned a B.S. from The University of Alabama. He retired from NASA at Kennedy Space Center after more than thirty-five years government service. "Joe" is an army veteran of the Korean war. He has two grown sons and lives in Titusville, FL with his wife of 54 years, Joan, and their five "rescued" pets. Richardson has received several awards for his works in short story contests.
