Mission Statement

The North Brevard Coalition of Human Services will serve to educate the community and individual agencies about existing services; to work cooperatively to develop services that fill unmet needs; and as a united group, act as a consultant to individual agencies in the preparation, review and submission of grant proposals or the development of new projects or programs.

History

The North Brevard Coalition of Human Services was established in 1994 to coordinate the resources and efforts of the various human service agencies in the North Brevard region. Together, the member agencies have found ways to assist many families and individuals who would otherwise go without the basic needs of food, clothing, and/or shelter. The Coalition believes that together we can ensure that no human is neglected by the community.

GAP Analysis Update

What is Gap Analysis? Why was a Survey initiated? When was it offered to the community? Who recorded the results? How will the community benefit from its results?

The Gap Analysis was created by the North Brevard Coalition of Human Services for the citizens of North Brevard to determine what 'gaps' may currently exist for services not in our area.

  • Fall 2006 - A decision was made to evaluate community needs so the Coalition could review their services and plan strategies to address the needs.
  • March 2007 - A Steering Committee of community leaders is formed to guide this process.
  • Fall 2007 - BCC Partners commit to the development of the Citizen's Survey. Survey is presented in the North Brevard area and on the City of Titusville website. The "Connection" talk show airs on the City of Titusville's cable station introducing citizens to the North Brevard Human Services agencies.
  • December 2007 to January 2008 - BCC documents, records, and analyzes the Survey.
  • February 2008 - The Steering Committee will receive the initial report on the survey
  • March /April 2008 - Focus Groups will respond to the findings from the report, before presentation to the community at large.

9th ANNUAL PROJECT E.A.T.
MEETS EXPECTATIONS AT MIMS

The ninth annual Project E.A.T. (Eat All Together), the free community-wide celebration on Christmas Day, met all expectations and more, according to Robynne Hester, Chair of the North Brevard Coalition of Human Services. The holiday event at the Cuyler Community Center, Mims, was sponsored by the Coalition along with North Brevard Parks and Recreation and the East Mims Progressive Civic League.

Over 139 volunteers were joined by 176 guests for a bountiful meal of turkey, ham, stuffing and all the fixings. Uncounted take-homes probably made the total number served over 400. A major contributor to the food was Parrish Medical Center employees for meat and pies. Early smoking of the turkeys was done by John Rhinehart and his crew, while Mrs. Minnie Thomas manned the kitchen volunteers.

"Santa" Al Reshel distributed numerous gifts from North Brevard Sharing Center to children who were happily engaged in a bouncing tent along with games directed by the Indian River City United Methodist Church members. Adults and children alike were delighted to hop in the carriage and enjoy horse-drawn rides with Clairese Austin and husband Ron of Horse Sisters, Inc. Entertainment for all included guitarist Paula Slater and D.J. Ed Hughley, who had all ages "dancing in the aisles." Those present also had the opportunity to voice their concerns in the Gap Analysis of North Brevard social service needs.

Stay-at-homes were treated to a home-delivered dinner created by parishioners of the First Christian Church of Titusville through Operation Light-the-Way.

Commented Hester, "All in all, I have had such favorable comments about the facility and how blessed the day was to everyone involved. Our thanks to the entire North Brevard community for making it possible.
