Friends of the Enchanted Forest

Opportunities: The new air conditioned Education Center brings new opportunities in the summer of 2002. Hosts will be needed to welcome guests and operate our shoppe. Two types of guides will be needed: those who take people through the scrub & woods, and those who interpret the indoor exhibits and give slide/demonstration shows. Trails need to be maintained, funds need to be raised for programs, public relations people and speakers will help bring the sanctuary to the public.

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

Opportunities: Merritt Island NWR manages a volunteer program of over 200 volunteers. Volunteers are suited to their particular interests and abilities. Volunteer opportunities include but are not limited to staffing the Visitor Center, Trail Maintenance, Bird Surveys, Trash Pick-up, Carpentry, Leading Bird Tours and other interpretive programs, staffing off-site exhibits and assisting with special events.

Hospice of St. Francis

Opportunities: Hospice cares for terminally ill persons in their home, so that they may live as fully and comfortably as possible. Volunteers needed to provide respite care, friendly visits, transportation, errands, office support and more. Free 18 hour training course provided, no previous experience required.

Opportunities: Binky Patrol makes comforting covers for children, ages 0-18. Any child who needs the security of knowing someone cares and that they are loved receives the blankets. BP is looking for more volunteer "hands" that sew, quilt, crochet, or knit. We also need donations of fabric, yarn, sewing notions, etc.
Head Start Grandparents Project

Opportunities: The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program and the Child Care Association of Brevard County are recruiting volunteers over 55, men or women, to spend time with the little children in the Head Start Program. Retired and Senior Volunteer Program

Opportunities: The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program places caring adults 55 and over in many volunteering opportunities. Whether you like to work with seniors or children, in an office, with law enforcement or enjoy the outdoors, we have a place for you. All volunteers are covered with our supplemental insurance at no cost to them. Please call for more information on who you can join many others in contributing to our community.
Senior Transerve Project

Opportunities: Volunteer Drivers — RSVP & VISTA volunteers are working together to set up a volunteer run transportation program, and are recruiting volunteer drivers, who can drive at least four hours a week. Drivers will be able to pick time and area, and will be covered by supplemental insurance. Please call for more information. This is an important program for people 55 and over who have no other means of transportation to get to doctors, grocery stores, to visit a loved one in a hospital or nursing home.
Meals On Wheels

Opportunities: Volunteer Drivers — Meals On Wheels begins meal deliveries to homebound seniors each day at 11 AM. If you can spare 2 hours one day a week (Mon. - Fri.), have a valid drivers license and a properly insured vehicle call today and begin delivering the "most appreciated meal in Brevard." Opportunities: Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders — A statewide volunteer based program that empowers people on Medicare and their caregivers to make informed decisions about their Medicare and other health insurance issues.This service is free of charge by volunteers who uphold client confidentiality and provide information and unbiased advice.
HorseSisters & Associates

Opportunities: We are a horse rescue and therapeutic riding center located at 2714 Cuyler St. in Mims. We currently need help with grooming, feeding and working with horses, as well as general farm maintenance and our fund raising events. No experience needed, but must be 11 years or older.
Brevard Adult Literacy Volunteers

Opportunities: Individual tutoring in reading and writing. We provide free training and materials for our tutors. Tutoring is in the libraries. Day and time are determined by tutor/ student. Other needs are website maintenance, fund raising, publicity/public relations, inventory clerk, statistics clerk, clerical, custodial, and building maintenance.
Oyster Restoration project

Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to help restore dead oyster reefs for an oyster reef restoration project in the Indian River Lagoon. Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older, accompanied by an adult, able to follow instructions and work with their hands.
