The Shoes for the Needy, Inc. program was formed in 1976. This program is a project of the Fraternal & Veterans Council of Titusville. This project is 100% charitable and 100% of the funds raised go toward our mission to provide shoes for the needy children ages 5 to 16 of North Brevard.
Council members are comprised of non-paid volunteers from the participating organizations elected at the annual general meeting. The members also accept donations of shoes that are in good condition and sells them for a nominal fee at the B-B-Q. Any shoes that are left at the end of the day are given to North Brevard Charities.
Participating organizations gather names in the area who need shoes; from teachers, schools, churches, etc. The Council members verify the needs are legitimate and supply $25.00 certificates to those who qualify. These certificates are then redeemed by the recipients for one pair of shoes at Payless Shoe Source.
In North Brevard, the need to supply shoes to needy children is increasing every year. Although this is primarily a program to supply shoes for needy children 5 through 16, there are exceptions and special cases where the Council will provide these certificates to those who have experienced the trauma of a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado, flood or fire.
Shoes for the Needy, Inc. is registered with the IRS as a 501 (c) (3) Public Charity which means that all donations are fully income tax deducti- ble. Donations can be made payable to Shoes for the Needy, Inc. by check or money order and sent to the above address.
