The 2012 Airshow is shaping up to be one of our best ever!! The show is scheduled for 9, 10 and 11 March 2012 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and will be dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of the famous "Doolittle Raiders."
As always, the airshow will have a little something for everyone and is a great family event. If you have not been to one previously, you are in for a treat; it's a combination county fair, 3-ring circus and 4th of July all rolled into one. The gates will open at 8:30AM and the airshow starts around 12:45PM. Look at this website and our FaceBook page for lots of details, schedules and pictures about the show. Come early; or be late! The traffic gets very heavy by late morning and there's plenty to see and do before the show.
There will be lots of vintage warbirds and modern military aircraft on static display, to see and photograph; pilots and aircraft historians with whom to talk; WWII re-inactors to watch (including American Normandy Invasion soldiers, German troops and for the first time this year we will even have a group of WWII Japanese re-enactors). There are also lots of exhibits and displays as well as merchandise and food vendors to check out. Finally, there are games for the kids, an antique car showing, armor from the Institute of Military Technology private collection AND the Valiant Air Command's PX gift shop tent.
Come early and see it all. About the time you have toured the infield, seen all the displays and vendors and gotten your favorite beverage, it will be time for the airshow to start and four fantastic hours of flying.
We are going to have a great lineup this year. In addition to all the terrific vintage warbirds you are used to seeing at our museum such as the F-86 Sabre jet, the Grumman Wildcat and Avenger Torpedo plane, MiG-15, F-8 Crusader, A-6 Intruder and many others, we will have some other great warbirds flying in. Aircraft like the P-51, Corsair, T-33 Shooting Star, C-46 Commando, an AC-47 Spooky gunship, F-104 Star fighter, UH-1 Huey and others. We will have the "Black Diamond" aerial jet demonstration team and other aerobatic acts. The military will be providing us a C-130 for static display, C-27, Blackhawks and even Canada is sending down some F-18s. It also appears, at this time, that will are going to have a B-2 Stealth Bomber fly over on Saturday.
We even have some of the great 2011 acts returning. Acts like a Jet powered dragster (Wicked Willy) that goes from 0-300 mph in 5.12 second and which will be racing a jet aircraft down the runway each day; John Fallis' P-40, UH-1 Huey from the "Sky Soldiers," and to help us honor the Doolittle Raiders, we will have a formation of B-25s including some of the best still flying. Aircraft like Tom Reilly's Killer Bee; Larry Kelly's Panchito, which is sponsored this year by the DAV, "History Flights" famous B-25H Barbie III, and finally from the "Fighter Factory" we will have Wild Cargo -- others are possible.
Be sure to inquire about rides on these unique WWII bombers in the mornings before the airshow and in the afternoons after it is over. The B-25s will be here to help us honor a true American hero and one of only five survivors of the famous Doolittle Raiders, LtCol Richard Cole. He was Jimmy Doolittle's co-pilot on aircraft #1 off the USS Hornet. He will be our VIP honored guest and will be here for autographs and photo opportunities.
Finally, as if that were not enough, we had a unique opportunity to have FiFi, the worlds only flying B-29 SuperFortress, participate in this year's airshow. She will be on static display during the airshow and available for rides. This is a must see this year for this very special aircraft....
So, get your advance tickets now! You can get them online, or at our museum and other locations around Brevard (listed on our website and Facebook), or you can call and for a small charge, we will mail them to you. Be sure and check out our new upgrade options this year, such as our VIP chair area, at crowd center, and our Beer Garden, where you can relax with your favorite beverage and snacks.
In the meantime, don't forget to visit the museum, which is open from 9AM-5PM, 7 days a week and where we have many of the aircraft and exhibits that you see during the airshow on display. Come in, take a tour and become a part of history!!
