Coastal Preserves Alliance

Coastal Preserves Alliance

OUR MOTTO: "Conserving Florida's Natural Heritage from Scrub to Sea," highlights our goal to protect Florida's intricately linked coastal uplands, lowlands, and lagoon waters. Rare, high, coastal scrub connects through lowland marshes to the Indian River Lagoon System, an estuarine system more diverse in species than any other in the United States. Our little estuarine fish mascot, the goby, represents the aquatic links between freshwater draining from uplands and the salty waters of our coastal lagoons.

The Coastal Preserves Alliance (CPA) of East Central Florida works to protect and restore natural areas on Florida's central Atlantic coast that provide important habitat for endangered species and that serve as the watershed for the Indian River Lagoon. The focus of our work is on five preserves distributed throughout Volusia, Brevard, and Indian River Counties. Members of the CPA enjoy taking part in outdoor projects like removing invasive exotic plants, planting trees, and volunteering to help with research projects, education programs, and special celebratory events.

4th Annual Horseback Poker Ride a Success!

We had 87 paid riders this year and netted $2,122 for the Park! Money raised is used to improve the Park as well as to fund research and preservation projects for the endangered species that call the Park home. Recently, funds were used to help pay for a a special camera to observe the highly endangered Red Cockaded Woodpecker. Our Park's budget was cut in half this year, and believe us, it wasn't a big budget to start. As a result, the Park staff were forced to remove the Port a Let at Ranch Camp (SE side). Thanks to funds from the Poker Ride, adn a kind discount from Reliable Poly-John, we already have the Port A Let reinstalled.

The CSO would like to thank all the riders who came out for a fun day on the trails. These are tough times for many, and we really appreciate your support.

We would also like to thank our sponsors, particularly Fellsmere Feed for their wonderful donation of $120 to help fund the Rider's Lunch. Rhea Stover, of Rhea Stover Digital Photography, donated her time, skills, and equipment to take pictures of the riders on the trail. Riders were able to purchase the photos back at Camp, all proceeds were donated to the CSO. Door prizes were also generously donated by Malabar Feed & Farm in Malabar, Farm & Pet Outlet in Bithlo, Graphic Sign & Logo of Rockledge, Othopedics & Sports Medicine of Brevard, Treasure Coast Feed and Western Wear in Vero Beach, Indian River Tack and Feed in Vero Beach, and The Trading Post in Vero Beach.
