PRESCRIBED FIRE
Weather permitting, a prescribed fire will be conducted by Canaveral National Seashore in the Max Hoeck unit 1,066 acre on Saturday, May 7th. Local agencies and adjacent landowners will be re-notified just prior to the treatment. Some roads and trails may be closed.This will be a joint operation with Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. The purpose of this prescribed fire is to reduce unnaturally high levels of fuel that could ignite from lightning strikes during the summer. The operation will also improve habitat for the federally-protected Florida Scrub Jay and Eastern Indigo Snake.
