PRESCRIBED FIRE
Weather permitting, a prescribed fire will be conducted by Canaveral National Seashore in a 240 acre tract in the Bills Hill area (just south of Oak Hill). It will occur between Sunday, February 10, 2008 and the end of February. The park cannot set the actual date more than a few days in advance because specific weather conditions are required to burn safely.The prescribed fire is necessary to reduce unnaturally high levels of fuel that could ignite from lightning strikes during the summer. The operation will also improve habitat for the federally-protected Florida Scrub Jay and Eastern Indigo Snake.
