Jess Parrish Medical Foundation Jump Starts Country Acres' "Adopt-A-Room" Campaign
The Country Acres Auxiliary is delighted to announce that Jess Parrish Medical Foundation has granted enough funds to its "Adopt-A-Room" campaign to furnish two of its thirteen bedrooms.
"Our kids are good kids coming from very bad situations," says Country Acres program manager Shannon Washington. "Our furniture is literally falling apart after decades of use, and community generosity is allowing us to replace it so that our kids will have a better place to lay their heads at night."
The JPMF gift is enough to furnish one full bedroom, and another smaller bedroom that serves as an "emergency bed" for the home. "The Foundation's gift is a shining example of what happens when we make room in our hearts for our abused children," says Auxiliary board member Sara Ann Conkling. "Our kids will go to sleep every night knowing that someone in our community is thinking about them and cares about their well-being."
The JPMF gift joins Titusville Sunrise Rotary's gift of a full bedroom, and a collaborative gift from Space Coast Honda, Sovereign Grace Church, and Mattress Barn that replaced all the mattresses in the Home. The veterans at Veterans Memorial Center recently replaced the worn and torn sofa in the kids' family room.
Ten more bedrooms remain up for adoption. The cost of adopting a full bedroom is $1900; a half-bedroom can be adopted for $950. "All donations of any size are greatly appreciated, and they go directly to the needs of our kids," says Terry Mayhew, Auxiliary president. To make a tax-deductible donation to this project, please mail a check to Country Acres Auxiliary at 1850 S. Deleon Ave., Titusville, FL, 32780, and mark your donation "Adopt-A-Room".
The Jess Parrish Medical Foundation is dedicated to supporting and enhancing healthcare outreach, patient care, rehabilitation, and wellness services that contribute to a better quality of life for citizens in North Brevard County. The Country Acres Auxiliary supports the ongoing needs of the abused, neglected and abandoned children living at Country Acres Children's Home. For more information, please contact Shannon Washington at 321-264-5000. |
Country Acres was established in 1970 by the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners to serve dependent children who have suffered abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. For almost thirty-five years we have continued to provide services for our County's most valuable resources -- our children.
The children's home is primarily funded by the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners and the Florida Department of Children and Families.
The enrichment of the program is achieved through the efforts of the Country Acres Auxiliary, Inc., Many willing local churches, civic and service/corporate organizations and individuals continue to support the ongoing needs of Country Acres children.
OUR FAMILY
We are a large family. To make it work, we have family customs. Both the parents and the children know what is expected of each other through our Family Living Guide. Natural and logical consequences are used for correcting behavior. Through our consequence program the children learn responsibility and achieve privileges. The privileges are age related and focus on teaching each child respect, resourcefulness, responsiveness and responsibility.
We have separate living areas for boys and girls. They are involved in keeping their own room's clean as well as shared areas of the home. They do their own laundry with supervision and have assigned chores. All the children have various physical and social activities available. We have bikes, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, tennis and arts and crafts on campus. We also provide opportunities for residents to go swimming, roller skating, fishing, the beach, parks and other social or recreational outings, including YMCA, KSC, Disney field trips and museums.
OUR CHILDREN
Our children attend public school, participate in after-school activities, community events and attend local churches.
We provide a safe nurturing family style home environment for both boys and girls. We continually work with the children individually to teach them how to complete daily self-care tasks, manage their own individual physical, educational, social and spiritual goals.
Abuse leaves many scars. Counseling services are provided to our children through several partnership arrangements with Mental Health Agencies. They provide counselors who work with children in group, individual and therapeutic activities to resolve emotional, social and behavioral problems. The therapeutic treatment program goal is to help each child achieve success.
