Velveteen

  RISING STARS THEATRE

THE VELVETEEN RABBIT

By William Buck
Directed by: Jeff Fergeson
There was once a velveteen rabbit, and in the beginning he was really splendid. He was fat and bunchy, as a rabbit should be; his coat was spotted brown and white, he had real thread whiskers, and his ears were lined with pink sateen. On Christmas morning, when he sat wedged in the top of the Boy's stocking, with a sprig of holly between his paws, the effect was charming.
Produced by special arrangement with Newplays for Children, Charlottesville, VA.
PERFORMANCES: 12/11, 12, 13

Yonkers

Two for One balcony seating coupon

LOST IN YONKERS

By Neil Simon
Directed by: Nancy Speno

Neil Simon won all the awards around, including the Pulitzer Prize, for this bittersweet comedy about growing up in New York during World War II.

The play focuses on the brothers, Arty and Jay, who have been left with their frightfully intimidating Grandmother and sweet, mentally slow Aunt Bella. Add into the mix, Uncle Louie, a small-time, tough-talking hoodlum on the run and sister, Gert, who suffers from a speech problem. The ups and downs of this family will bring both laughter and bitter-sweet tears.

Presented through special arrangements with Samuel French, Inc.

PERFORMANCES: 1/15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30
Curtain: Fri. & Sat. at 8:00pm; Sun. at 2:00pm.

Vanities

  Emma's Attic Small Theatre

VANITIES

By Jack Heifner
Directed by: Nancy Wolford

Vanities is a comedy about the friendship among three small town women in the 1960's and 70's. The play chronicles their lives as the popular cheerleaders, to their college sorority house, and their reunion in New York City five years later where their lives have moved in very different directions. Joanne, played by Michelle Merklinger, is lovable and sweet, but somewhat over the top; Kathy, played by Ashley Bauer, is the planner, organizer and "leader" of this group; Mary, played by Gail Huffman, is the wild one.

Presented through special arrangements with Samuel French, Inc.

PERFORMANCES: 2/5, 6, 7, 12, 13

Footprints

Footprints

Written & Directed by: Mary Purdy

The play is based on written and oral histories compiled by Roz Foster, of the people who settled this area. You won't believe the antics of Dennis Sawyer and his mule, Maude or the tenderness of Butler Campbell as he speaks of his lost daughter. Comedy, tragedy and of course - no play about the black settlers of Brevard would be complete without the story of Harry T Moore.

PERFORMANCES: Feb 12 and 13 at 7:30pm and Feb 14 at 2pm

Guys and Dolls logo

GUYS AND DOLLS

Book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, Music by Frank Loesser, Lyrics by Frank Loesser
Directed by: Steven Heron

Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy - considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy-soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends: Sarah Brown (Malinda Myers), the upright but uptight "mission doll," out to reform the evildoers of Time Square; Sky Masterson (Broadway veteran Patrick Sullivan), the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide (Mindy Selby), the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit (Jeff Ferguson), her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game. Add to this a sprinkling of cartoon gangster high jinx and Guys and Dolls is a musical theatre classic not to be missed.

Presented through special arrangements with Music Theatre International.

PERFORMANCES: 2/26, 27, 28, 3/5, 6, 7, 12, 13
