The First Sugar Mill
The first sugar mill in the area began on the Reyes Grant located about 10 miles north of Titusville near the headwaters of the Indian River. The Reyes Grant consisted of about 1000 acres. The sugar mill operated from 1804 to 1835 when it was destroyed at the beginning of the Second Seminole Indian War. Ruins that were found include a boiler room, a distillery and a base for the grinding mill.
