Education Committee

The Titusville Chamber's Education Committee focuses on education, promoting and assisting the business-education partnership in the North Brevard area. This active group is busy from August to May bringing the world of business and students together. The Mission of the Education Committee is "to serve as a catalyst for the development and delivery of community-based business education and related activities." Our current education committee is comprised of Educators, Business People, Community Organization Leaders and Concerned Citizens. We are currently working on a "Business Speakers Bureau" for the North Brevard School district. This will be a list of Business Leaders who will be available to make presentations at the various schools when needed. Our activities include: New teacher reception The highlight of our year is providing scholarships to local students from the two high schools and the Brevard Community College who plan to major in Education. Importantly, these scholarships are not chosen from among the Outstanding Young Adults, but from the students at each school who submit an application. (Any student may apply!) Businesses with A Heart campaign beginning in January to raise scholarship and Partners funding. Six Outstanding Young Adults are selected from each high school at the beginning of the school year - one OYA from each high school (two per month) are recognized at the monthly Chamber luncheons Career Shadowing, which places students with local businesses in their area of career interest Partners in the Business of Education Luncheon where we recognize the schools' business partners Bringing young people to the Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce Business Institute. School Wish List, which gives businesses the opportunity to provide items and services the individual schools need Keeping abreast of legislative issues affecting education and making policy recommendations on those issues to the Chamber Board of Directors is another important function of the Education Committee.

September 27, 2011 WHO: Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce Education Committee WHAT: 2011 Career Exploration Event Brevard Community College - Titusville Campus, 1311 North US 1, Titusville, Florida 32796 WHEN: November 17, 2011 WHY: Providing students a one-stop career exploration opportunity with local businesses. The Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Brevard Community College Titusville Campus for this one-stop career exploration event. THIS IS NOT A JOB FAIR! We are bussing in students from Astronaut, Space Coast and Titusville High Schools for this event. The students will be delivered to the gymnatorium to allow them to spend time at our career showcase and will be required to visit 10 of the 16 career clusters. PROSPECTIVE PARTICIPANT FLYER September 22, 2011 WHO: Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce's Education Committee WHAT: 2011 Welcome Back Teachers Reception WHERE: Titusville High School Media Center WHEN: September 20, 2011 On September 20, 2011, there was a "sea" of eager teachers waiting patiently outside the media center doors of Titusville High School where inside, over 45 participating vendors were making last minute touches to their displays before welcoming in approximately 300 teachers celebrating their profession! Between walking out with arms hanging heavy with bags stuffed with school supplies and feasting on a gourmet buffet prepared by the THS culinary students, attending teachers also received information on dozens of programs available to classrooms, local fundraising opportunities, and various products to enhance their own lives. In addition, there were over 45 door prizes handed out! Major corporate sponsors included Community Credit Union, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Staples, Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex, Zachry Industrial, Inc., Kim Jones Insurance Company, Eads Financial Group, Connectivity Business Systems and Florida Power and Light, Co. There were a total of 57 businesses participating in various ways and numerous volunteers from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Andrew Jackson Middle School Parents, and the Chamber of Commerce's Ambassadors Committee making this night a giant success!
